The Hunger Project
Died From Hunger Today

World hunger is the worst crisis in humanity. It is presently affecting over 1 billion people according to the United Nations. Tragically, it is estimated that 25,000 people die every day due to world hunger. One child will die every six seconds because of malnourishment. The United Nations calls this the global “Silent Crisis” because so few people know of the magnitude of this problem. The good news is we can make a difference.

GWN has discovered a company that has created a meal substance that helps the extremely malnourished restore their bodies to the point where they can again eat solid food. People that are extremely malnourished have their digestive systems compromised. As result, they cannot eat solid food even it were available. Therefore, it is critical that a nutritional bridge be built that will help the starving restore their internal bodies to the place where they can eat normal, solid food.

GWN has decided to participate in this great humanitarian effort. Because of our work in famine and hunger hit countries such as Kenya and Cambodia, we have a unique door to be able to serve the people we have relationship with in rescuing these people from the brink of death. 100% of the funds given to “The Hunger Project” will be used to purchase these meal packs, which are distributed around the world to those most in need.  Each meal pack provides 35 meals. It is a unique powered substance that is digestible and carries with it a special balance of protein, vitamins, and minerals. Water is all that is needed in order to turn this powder into a life saving meal.

GWN distributes the meal packs in two ways. First, when we, as an organization, organize a trip to a famine hit country, we will purchase the packs directly from the company and take them directly to the site where we will minister. Second, we take additional meal packs that are bought and allow the distributing company to send them to AmeriCares for distribution.

Americares is the humanitarian organization that distributes the meal packs in behalf of the company where we purchase them. To check out their stellar record, visit them at www.AmeriCares.org. This organization monitors the hunger situation worldwide and responds to any crisis that develops immediately. For instance, when the earthquake hit the country of Haiti in January of 2010, AmeriCares sent a plane loaded with these meal packs within a week of the tragedy in order to have food available for those who had not eaten since the quake hit.

For two years in a row, GWN has had the privilege of going to Kenya, Africa to feed those who are greatly malnourished. In 2010, our medical team was able to feed over 2,000 people from the Turkanna, tribe. In 2011, the team GWN sent doubled its efforts and fed over 4,000 people from several tribes in the northern part of Kenya. The worst drought in sixty years has struck this region where thousands are dying of little or no food. People walked for days to the place where our medical team was stationed. Not only were they fed, but food was given to many of the families to take home. Click below to view a picture montage of the trip taken where these people were fed.
